Wayne Arrington Cutchins, 75, formerly of Newport News and Suffolk, VA, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 in Tucson, AZ.
He was a graduate of Ferguson High School, Class of 1966 and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Class of 1970, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. While studying at Ferguson, Wayne was a member of the band and a member of the National Honor Society.
Wayne worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, Gibbs & Cox and Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding in the submarine divisions. He married Joan Augustine and they moved to Suffolk, where he was a member of Cedar Point Club and an avid golfer. Upon retirement, they relocated to Green Valley, AZ in Quail Creek where he could play golf every day. Wayne was a devoted Baptist.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Marion Russell Cutchins and Jean Wyatt Cutchins. Besides his wife of 47 years, Joan, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wyatt and Kyoung Cutchins of Yorktown, VA and his canine companions, Teddy and Coco.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Peninsula Memorial Park.
