Jim Schwan passed away on January 23, 2024 at the age of 72.
Jim was born and raised in the Finger Lakes region of New York State and was predeceased by parents, Charlotte Galton and Richard Schwan.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Becker, as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975 and participated, as a crewman aboard the USS Kirk, in the evacuations of Cambodia and South Vietnam during his first year of his enlistment. For his service, he received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy “E” Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal,
and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
He loved his family, his community, animals, sports, music, antique scales, vintage machines, old advertising pieces, upstate New York, and the many places he was so fortunate to have visited and worked around America and the world. He cherished his friends and held a special place in his heart for people of character, honesty, humor, humility, kindness, modesty, integrity, and honor.
Visitation will be at Bucktrout Funeral Home, Williamsburg, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 1. Burial will be private, and held at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.
