James Aiken Suter, 77, departed this life peacefully on January 14 th , 2024, at Hospice House in Williamsburg, Virginia, his family close by. He was born on September 10 th , 1946, to the late Nancy and Walter Aiken Suter, of Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
He attended Haverford High School, Mount Olive University and received an Associate Degree in Business at St. Joseph University. He served two years in the Army, stationed at Virginia Beach, Virginia.
On July 22, 1967, Jim married Virginia Jacqueline Sandlin of Verona, North Carolina after meeting each other at Mount Olive University. In 1983, Jim and family moved to Williamsburg, Virginia where they purchased a local company called Kwik-Kopy Printing, which still operates today as Suter Printing. Over the years several other local printing companies were purchased and several locations added.
Jim was very involved in the community. He was a past President of the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and served on several other Boards, including the Williamsburg Hotel & Motel Association and Bacon Street Youth Services. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg for 35 years.
Jim loved his life, especially his beloved wife Jackie, his children, grandchildren, and friends. Enjoying time at the family’s beach house on Topsail Island, North Carolina, was his favorite pastime. He was the ultimate family man, always making sure to take care of his home and children.
Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Jackie, two children, son Geoffrey (Kimberly, Caroline, Isabella), daughter Heidi Hubbard (Bill, Camden, James, and Cash).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Walter Suter and his sister Marti Carroll.
Jim will truly be missed. He would often say “If things are not going your way, you can sit and wallow in it or get up and do something about it.” Jim’s words of wisdom will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.
A private service will be held.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests that donations be made to the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg Foundation through the Williamsburg Community Foundation and the Hospice House of Williamsburg.
