Earl “Zeke” R. Adkins, Sr. (Vincent Funeral Home)

Earl “Zeke” R. Adkins, Sr, 81, of Henrico, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 24, 2023. He was born on September 6, 1942, to the late Zora and Nancy Adkins.

Earl grew up in New Kent, Virginia and attended the Samaria Indian School. Shortly after school, he was enlisted into the United States Army, where he served for four years and was honorably discharged. He worked for CSX Railroad for 34 years, until his retirement.

“Zeke”, as he was affectionately known, prided himself on being quite the comedian. He loved to make anyone smile, especially with his corny jokes that elicited a cackle. He was a caring person and would do anything to help his family and friends. Zeke also loved fishing and spending time near the water.

“Zeke” had a special love for his family, especially his grandboys. He took pride in being called “Gramps” and would spend time with them whenever he could. When at home, you could find him in front of the TV watching reruns of his favorite Westerns. Recently, most days would start by watching the 700 club, then reading his Bible. Zeke had quite the collection of turtles, which represented his appreciation for the Tribe. He was a member of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe and loved to volunteer for their events. Most recently, he was employed by the Tribe. If you knew Zeke, you knew love and he will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children, Randy Adkins (Davina), Heather Sweeney (Shaun) and Cindy Adkins; grandsons, Adin, Dylan, Avan and Dalton; his brother, Chris Adkins; special family members and friends, Laura Walsh, Merle and Drue Holmes, Harley Cannada and Clifford Stewart, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA. A funeral service will be held noon, Friday, December 29, 2023, at Samaria Baptist Church, 8130 Lott Cary Rd, Providence Forge, VA 23140.
