A native of Newport News, Virginia, Helen’s life unfolded as a testament to elegance, grace, and a profound appreciation for the beauty of shared moments.
She was born to James Bushell McArthur and Helen Nelson McArthur. Helen’s journey embraced the heart of Southern charm and familial warmth. Helen’s magnetic personality endeared her to all who crossed her path. An adept storyteller and lover of music, she reveled in playing the spoons, often harmonizing with friends strumming guitars and ukuleles at their cherished beach home in Poquoson, Virginia. A beacon of Southern hospitality, Helen’s impact resonates beyond the borders of her Alexandria, Louisiana home.
Mrs. Helen Padgett’s story, rich with laughter, melody, and coastal memories, will continue to inspire and bring solace to those privileged to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sherwood Padgett; parents, James Bushell McArthur and Helen Nelson McArthur and her sister, Harriet McArthur Michael. Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and joy. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Thompson and son-in-law, Marlin Thompson; her grandchildren, Megan Leigh Graham, Ashlynn Renee Graham, Jeffery Charles McConnell and Kelsey Jane Faccone; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Elaine Eddie, Jacob Kade, Richard and Anniston Claire Richard as well as her brother, James Scotty McArthur AND a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers include, Marlin Thompson, Jeffery McConnell, David Brabrand, Paul Michael, Jim McArthur, and Jeff McGlohn. Honorary Pallbearer, Jacob Richard.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Her vivacious spirit will be celebrated during a service at 2 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
