Charles Brown “Brownie” Downey, 92 , of West Point, VA, passed away Monday, October 9th, 2023. He was the son of Frank Martin Downey and May Ella Brown Downey, and the husband of Frances Ann Parnell-Downey.
Brownie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and May; his sister, Edith M. Downey; his brother, Frank M. Downey, Jr.; and his first wife, Nell Davis Downey.
Brownie is survived by his wife, Ann; brother, James E. Downey (Thelma); sister-in-law, Minnie B. Downey; nephews, Frank M. Downey, III and Michael B. Downey; nieces, Rachel D. Corliss and Rebecca A. Downey. Through his wife, Ann, he is also survived by three stepsons, two stepdaughters-in-law, six step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Brownie served our country in the United States Navy. He was a proud citizen of the Town of West Point, where he loved serving his community as a friend and plumbing business owner.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at First Baptist Church of West Point, 414 Fourth Street, West Point, VA 23181.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church of West Point, where he was an active member.
