Jennie Sodero Britton, 80, of Saluda

Jennie Sodero Britton (Vincent Funeral Home)

Jennie Sodero Britton, 80, of Saluda, VA (Middlesex County) departed this life in her home on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

She was the daughter of Sadie & David Sodero, both deceased (Owings, MD). In her early life, Jennie attended Catholic School in Washington, D.C. for her elementary and middle school years. Jennie attended Suitland High School, in Maryland, and upon graduating in 1960 entered Longwood College in Farmville, VA. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, and thereafter achieved her Teacher’s Certificate, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. Jennie retired from teaching in 2005, after serving school systems within King William, the Town of West Point, York Academy, and 22 outstanding years within New Kent Primary School.

In November 1965, Jennie married Charles “Sonny” Earl Britton, of West Point, and were married 58 years until her untimely passing in September. Jennie and Sonny had two children, Sandra Lee Evans, of West Point, VA (deceased 2017) and Charles Earl Britton, Jr., of Mechanicsville, VA. Jennie is survived by her husband, Sonny Britton (Saluda, VA); her son, Charles Britton; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Britton; her son-in-law, Browne Evans (Mascot, VA); her sister Josephine Puliatti (Jacksonville, FL); her brother, David Sodero (Phoenix, AZ); and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sharon & Vic Britton (King & Queen, VA).

When Jennie was not teaching, she had a passion for cooking, hosting events for family and friends in her home, and caring ever-so-deeply for her husband and children. She loved experimenting with various recipes and had a gift for Italian cooking. Jennie was proud to have been able to learn to tap dance and loved music, especially The Doobie Brothers and Creedance Clearwater Revival. Jennie was an amazing cheerleader from the sidelines during her children’s sporting events. She loved to shop and enjoyed her Saturdays with her family and friends. Jennie and her husband, Sonny, loved their Sunday’s spending time with their St. Olaf Catholic Church (Williamsburg, VA) friends during the after-service fellowship, and then Sunday Brunch with some of these very same people. Most of all, Jennie revered her husband Sonny, and was so very proud of all their hard work and sacrifice to find and build their forever home on the Rappahannock River.

Jennie had a wealth of friends, and never met a stranger. Her heart was as big as her laugh, and she will be forever missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Catholic Church of the Redeemer located at 8275 Meadowbridge Road, Mechanicsville, VA on Thursday, October 12 at 11 a.m. The family will host a repast following the service for attending family and friends. A graveside service for family will be held at St. Theresa’s Cemetery, West Point, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the National Kidney Foundation.
