Lamarr Otis Bowman, 76, of Newport News, VA passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, after a long illness. He was born in Wise County, VA to the late Odus Bowman and the late Jettie Stidham Bowman of Pound, VA.
Lamarr spent his early childhood in Pound, VA surrounded by many relatives and friends. His family later moved to Centerville, VA and he attended Fairfax County W.T. Woodson High School. Lamarr served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired after thirty years of employment with the Fairfax County (VA) School system as supervisor of maintenance. Lamarr and Karen lived in Chantilly, VA before moving to Newport News, VA to be closer to family.
In addition to his parents, his only siblings preceded him in death, sisters, Norma Jackson (Thomaston, GA) and Donna Horne (Sterling, VA). Those left to grieve his passing are his wife, Karen Race Bowman; his sons, Vincent and Michael Bowman; the families of aunt Glenita Bowman and uncle Garry Bowman; brothers-in-law, Thomas Jackson, Willie James Horne and John Race; sister-in-law, Ann Race and all of his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His family is so grateful for the staff of the Riverside Walter Reed Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Gloucester, VA) for the kind and gentle care they provided to Lamarr.
In keeping with Lamarr’s request, a Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church, 13100 Warwick Blvd, Newport News.
