Cheri Amour Shores passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2023 with her beloved husband, Lance Shores, lovingly by her side. Cheri was a beautiful soul, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Cheri was born on September 23, 1971 in Richmond, Virginia to her loving mother, Linda B. Moore. Cheri was raised in Kilmarnock, Virginia and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1989. She studied business at Randolph-Macon College, where she graduated with a business degree that she would later put to use opening and operating multiple successful restaurants.
Cheri was extremely talented and endlessly creative. She put her artistic skills to use as a gemologist and jewelry designer. It was while working as a certified jeweler almost thirty years ago that Cheri met the love of her life, Lance Shores. Cheri and Lance were married in 2002, and spent more than twenty years creating a beautiful life together in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The pair built a loving home and started multiple businesses in the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach, where they became integral members of the community.
Cheri was an extremely successful and accomplished businesswoman. Her drive and determination led her to take on new opportunities outside of the jewelry industry. Together with her husband, Lance, she ventured into the restaurant business. The couple began their venture at Off Shore Bar and Grill, and eventually opened their own restaurant in Virginia Beach in 2006. The breakfast restaurant, aptly named Citrus, was a labor of love. Cheri meticulously designed every aspect of the new restaurant, from the decor to the menu. She developed a growing passion for the restaurant business. It was that passion and her admirable work ethic that drove the incredible success of the restaurant. The couple opened a second location several years later, and their success grew exponentially. Cheri rarely took a day off. She was the heart and soul of Citrus. Together with her husband Lance, she influenced and changed the restaurant culture at the beach and created an enduring legacy.
Cheri was undoubtedly accomplished, yet she was also sensitive and extremely compassionate. Cheri always made time for her friends and family. She was loyal, loving, and had a generous heart. She had a deep love for animals. Cheri devoted her time and resources to animal rescue groups, as well as to her own rescue dogs at home. She had a deep love for the beach, travel, music, and spending time with loved ones. Her dedication and passion for both her work and family life were unparalleled.
Cheri is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Lance P. Shores, mother, Linda B. Moore, sister; Tracy Raborg Zocher; brothers , Chadwick B. Moore (Katie) and Weldon Blair Moore; nieces, Amelia Wallace-Zocher and Sophia Rose; nephews, C. Grant Raborg, Joshua A. Zocher, Chase L. Raborg (Brianna), Keegan F. Moore, Grant Rose, and Weldon C. Moore; her in-laws, Ren and Lisa Shores, sister-in-law Dominique Shores, and her two beloved rescue dogs Lexi and Raven.
Cheri’s strength and determination undoubtedly helped her to endure her courageous fight against pancreatic cancer in the last year of her life. Cheri lit up the world with her beautiful smile, and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed. She will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life for Cheri will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church starting at 11 a.m.
