Ernest Lee White Jr., 65

Ernest Lee White Jr. (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Ernest Lee White Jr. was called home for eternal rest by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Ernest was born on February 20, 1958, to the late Gladys Whitley and Ernest L. White Sr. in Grafton, Virginia.

He was a graduate of York County Public Schools. Ernest was employed with the Gloucester County Public Schools in the Custodial Department from 1991 until his retirement in 2002.

“Sheriff,” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a very meticulous man with his appearance and the way he cleaned, and the care he put into detailing a car.  He was one of the good guys, a lovable teddy bear, and also a protector. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan who also enjoyed watching wrestling and NASCAR.  He wore his heart on his sleeve, and almost everyone he came into contact with grew to love him as a friend. He always greeted you with a smile or grin and he was both fun-loving and serious when he needed to be.

Sheriff will be dearly missed by his loving wife with whom he shared 41 years, Deborah D. White; daughter, Jeanette Ward; grandchildren, Kemora and Ja’Zion; siblings, Vaughn A. White Sr and Katrina D. Robinson; half-brother, Vincent Cheeseman; uncle, Jene White Sr.; aunts, Shirey and Roberta; brothers-in-law; sisters in-law; close friend, Daniel M. Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Live stream will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. White may be viewed on Friday between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., in the funeral home.
