Bryant Levi Jackson, Sr. was born in Williamsburg, VA, on March 7, 1951, and peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2023, at his residence.
Bryant, or “Levi,” as he was affectionately called, lived his entire life in Williamsburg. After attending Berkeley High School, he went to serve in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged in 1973. Post-military, Levi worked for Owens Brockway (O-I) and retired after thirty-four years of service.
At an early age, he confessed Christ as his personal Savior and attended several churches throughout the Williamsburg area before finding his home at Union Baptist Church; where he faithfully served in various roles, including ushering and singing in the Men’s Chorus.
Levi was a loving and devoted husband, father, Pa, Bruh, and friend. He always had a smile on his face, loved to tell jokes, and listen to gospel music. Throughout his life, Levi enjoyed spending time in his yard, fishing, watching Norfolk State University Marching Spartan Legion band, going to the aquarium/zoo, photography (he even had his own photography business called “Action Jackson Photography”), and visiting his friends & family. He even owned an unofficial transportation service because he enjoyed giving people rides! He was also a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan. Above all, his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Levi genuinely had a kind spirit, and his contributions to family and friends will be remembered forever. All you had to do was ask, and Levi would do it for you. We shall miss him as much as we loved him, but we find comfort in knowing that God’s will has been done.
Levi was preceded in death by his daughter, Leneva Jackson; mother, Annie Mae Long; father, Carlton Jackson, Sr.; sister, Marie Nell Jackson; and brother, Carlton Jackson, Jr. Levi is survived and will be missed by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Dottie Jackson; children, Bryant L. “BJ” Jackson Jr., Melissa Erskines, Dr. Erica “Booka” Johnson, Felicia “Fee-Fee” Ransome, and Dominique Harvey. His devotion and love will forever be remembered by his six grandchildren, Raven, Ishmel, Cierra, Deon, Wayne Jr., Bryant III, and London; great-grandchildren, Oaklyn and Wayne III; sister, Sheila Braxton; brothers, Joseph “JL” Jackson and Alfred “Jimmy Joe” Jackson; close friends, Aza Guggenheim, Larry Wynne, Charles Lemon, Eric Cooke, Martin Spikes, Ray Morman, Raymond Spikes, Roger “Bo-Bo” Wynn, Kelvin Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Union Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment with military honors to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Jackson may be viewed on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service in the church. Facial coverings are required.
