Jerry Delano Washington Sr. was born on February 25, 1959, to the late Herman Washington and Lorraine Stringfield and raised by his grandparents, the late Theodore and Blanche Washington. On January 21, 2023, he transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home.
He was affectionately known as “Big Mike” to family and friends. At an early age, he was baptized and joined Little Zion Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA.
On September 5, 1998, he married the love of his life Marcel Renee Taliaferro. This union was blessed with twenty-four wonderful years of love. He retired from Eastern State Hospital after thirty-two years of service as a Certified Nursing Assistant. He was an avid fisherman and loved sports, especially the Washington Commanders. He also loved to watch his soap operas and westerns.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Marcel; stepmother, Hortence Washington; daughter, Briana; three sons, Jerry Jr. (LaVonya), Michael, and Nikita; one stepson, Devon Taliaferro; two grandchildren, Jayvon and Olivia; three brothers, Herman Jr., David and Todd James (Willa); sister, Joy Wade; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. Washington may be viewed on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service in the funeral home. Facial coverings are required.
