Arthur Kivel Johnson Jr. was born May 4, 1961, to the late Arthur K. Johnson Sr. and Sarah L. Leach Johnson.
The family settled in Williamsburg, Virginia, after his father retired from the Army. Art attended Walsingham Academy from grades 1-12 and, upon graduating, attended Virginia Tech University, where he joined the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. After graduating, Art worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as an interpreter and storyteller, focusing on African American history. During his tenure, one of his joys was being a part of the teachers’ institute and his many opportunities for storytelling (which he really loved). Storytelling became one of his biggest passions, and he became a prolific storyteller.
On August 20, 1991, Arthur and the former Odie Rhames were united in holy matrimony. In 1995, the union was blessed with a daughter Aria Kendall Johnson.
Art loved God and enjoyed serving at Bethel Restoration Center and St John Baptist Church.
Art is survived by his wife, Odie and daughter, Aria. He was loved by many and will be genuinely missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held for Mr. Johnson at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2023, at St. John Baptist Church. Facial coverings are required.
