Loretta Wilnette Bradby Snead Crawley (Lodie) entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 1, 2022. She was born July 25, 1935 in Charles City County, VA to the late Samuel A. & Arnella Bradby. She was the fifth of seven children and was preceded in death by her parents, siblings (Ernest, Bertha, James, Kathleen, Samuel Jr., Lois), husband Alton O. Snead, Sr.; son Alton O. Snead Jr. (Mike), and grandsons LeMay and Darren Snead.
Loretta was educated in the Charles City County school system. She accepted Christ as her Savior August 17, 1948, was baptized September 19, 1948, and joined Little Elam Baptist Church.
In 1958, Loretta was united in holy matrimony with Alton O. Snead, Sr. For many years, their family traveled as an Air Force family until returning to Charles City in 1969. Loretta began working with the reorganized Youth and Young Adult Choirs upon her return, working with the Men’s Choir upon its formation, singing and playing with the Senior Choir, and was a teacher and member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
She retired from Nabisco in 1998 after 20 years of employment. She loved gardening and working with her flowers as well as spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners where many of them came to dine with her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Lovie Craddock, Jewel Jones, Jerri & Allen Buford, and Fred & Sylvia Snead; eight (8) grandchildren: Jaiman Snead, Daemion (Jacqueline) Jones & Jenee’ (Sintell) Crew, DeAngelo, DeAndre & Patrice Snead, Justus Snead Cooper, and Ramia Snead Outland; nine (9) great-grandchildren: Jacob Nettles, Montre, Brianna, Adrianna, DeAndre Jr., DeAndre III, Angel and Gabriel Snead, and Isaiah Outland; sisters-in-law: Agnes Bradby and Florence Snead; daughter in law, Sheryl Snead; family “in-love”: Marilyn Snead, Alvin Outland, Jackie Wallace, Almeade Jones, Cynthia Robinson, Hope Crawley, Kenneth Sweeney, Mary Lee Brinson, and Rev. Russell Crawley; a host of nieces and nephews (Althea & Henry Miles, devoted), cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1PM Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, Va. A viewing will be held two hours prior to services. Burial to follow in the Little Elam Baptist Church Cemtery.
