Arlene Catherine Johnson, a resident of Newport News and Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning, October 4, 2022. Arlene was born to Theodore Woods and Myrtle Johnson on February 14, 1936, at Presbyterian Hospital, in Newark, New Jersey. She was the third of five siblings: Doris Woods, Everett Woods, Carolyn Rivers, and Dennis Woods.
Arlene spent almost her entire life as a resident of Newark and East Orange, NJ. where she met and married her late husband, Donald William Johnson, on May 6, 1957. She was a loving mother to three daughters and one son, Lavone, Shirley, Donna, and Michael. She is survived by two daughters, Lavone and Donna, and her son Michael. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa, Keisha, Starlen, Safeeyah, Steven Jr., Jonathon, Tyrel, and Jasmine; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Arlene loved reading the newspaper and watching television. Her favorite shows were The Young and the Restless, Judge Judy, and the Price is Right…she was not to be interrupted during these show times.
Arlene was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, and neighbor who enjoyed life to the fullest. Those who had the opportunity to know her, even if for a short while, will always be blessed.
Arlene C. Johnson will be laid to rest with her husband on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, N.J. 08562. Services will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m.
