Early Friday morning, June 24, 2022, Earnest Jefferson Graves Sr. departed this life. He was born on December 6, 1953, to the late Margaret Graves and Matt W. Thompson Sr.
At an early age, Earnest accepted Christ with his grandmother Mabel Graves at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Homeville, VA.
Earnest served the country he so loved with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after eight years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son, James McKennly Graves. He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his devoted and loving wife, Miyon Graves; daughter, Angel Graves of Newport News, VA; son, Earnest Graves Jr. (SaKina) of Newport News, VA; eight grandchildren, A’sjon Jones, D’Mazei Jones, Qua’juan Graves, Corporal Nathaniel Carraway Jr. USMC, Jacob Johnson, Coculyuh Brooks, Nayia Carraway, and Emir Graves; five great-grandchildren, Zayden Jones, Zaire Jones, Malia Graves, Jayce Johnson, and Owen Graves; sister, Carolyn Witherspoon Jerome of Richmond, VA; two brothers, William Bond Jr. and Alvin Bond; aunts, Silvester Joe of Courtland, Va, Earnell Winfield of Franklin, VA, and Ruth Graves of Waverly, Va; uncles, Herbert Graves of Waverly VA and Melvin Graves of Richmond, Va; devoted friends, Jessie Winfield of Homeville, VA, Fred Jackson of Norfolk, VA, and Derrick Brown of Williamsburg, Va; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2022, in Mt. Moriah United Church of Christ cemetery with the Dr. Morris L. Randall Sr. officiating. Please bring your own lawn chairs as seating will be limited. Mr. Graves may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Facial coverings are required for all services.
