Evelyn Kirby, 67, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 after a short illness. She was a lifelong resident of Williamsburg and a graduate of James Blair High School. Evelyn owned and operated Kirby’s U-Haul in Williamsburg. She enjoyed working, going to Rosie’s, and eating crabs with her family on the weekends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, John L. Gardner; her husband of 19 years, Joseph T. Kirby, Sr.; her granddaughter, Jesse G. Hall; and her father, John H. Gardner, Jr. She is survived by her mother, Grace G. Gardner; her son, Michael A. Hall (Soosan); her daughter, Katherine K. Kirby (Sean); her sister, Terri C. Edwards (Jim); her brother, Tommie N. Gardner (Debbie); her brother, Joseph H. Gardner (Jennifer); two grandchildren, Christine M. Hall and Malakai M. Tyler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were so dear to her.
She would want to thank all her friends that have helped and supported her over the years including a special thanks to Tim Tuggle, all her extended family with U-Haul, and of course all of the staff at the Williamsburg Hospice House and Riverside Hospice who worked so hard to comfort her in her time of need.
There will be a graveside service for family at Olive Branch Christian Church on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11AM. A celebration of her life for family and friends at Meme’s and Papa’s will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 3PM to 6PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Williamsburg Hospice House.
