Edythe Earle Stewart, 96, of Lanexa

Edythe Earle Stewart (Vincent Funeral Home)

I’m writing my own obituary because I don’t trust anyone else to do it. (Ha)

I was born in New Kent County, Virginia on May 25, 1926. And it appears I passed away on May 29, 2022 in Lanexa, Virginia. After attending high school, I was employed with the federal government in Newport News as a record keeper for the overseas ships, carrying soldiers and supplies. I also interviewed prisoners of war through an interpreter. I was a bookkeeper/secretary with many employers, to include Eastern State Hospital. I retired from James City County Social Services after 42 years of employment.

In the early 40’s, I enjoyed playing first base on a government softball team, and I must say I was quite good! I was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on any beach. I founded the James City County Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary in 1967. In which we raised money for our Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

I was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church and served on various committees, Sunday School Teacher and I also sang in the choir.

I was predeceased by my husband, Richard, of 60 years. I am survived by my devoted daughter, Gayle (Hank), and brother Buck (Patty), as well as grandsons Ben (Janna), Tye (Leslie), and Taylor (Billy), great grandchildren Ethan, Chase, Jackson, and Cole. I am known to my grandchildren and great grandchildren as Mamaw.

I love people and cherish my friendships, which are many. Every morning I pray that I can bring a smile to someone each day.

My celebration of life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa, VA on June 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the JCC Fire Department, Station 1, 3135 Forge Road, Toano, VA 23168.

The family would like to thank Sentara Home Health Care especially her friend Bob, Sentara Hospice Services and a special thank you to all of our family and friends.
