Deaconess Eugenia Frances Lemon answered the master’s call on May 13, 2022, at home. Her life’s journey began on May 13, 1947, to the late Joseph and Ida Jefferson.

“Jean” or “Lemon”, as she was affectionately called, graduated from Ruthville High School in 1965. She was employed at the Old Chickahominy House, retiring after thirty-eight years of service.

At an early age, Eugenia joined Mount Zion Baptist Church and served as a faithful deaconess and member until her health began to fail.

In 1970, she was united in holy matrimony with Eddie L. Lemon.

She was also preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Mary Stukes and Emma Lewis; and brother-in-law, Charles Spruell.

Eugenia’s life will forever be cherished by her devoted daughter, Frannie Lemon; loving granddaughter, India Lemon; brother, Oliver “Luster” Lemon; four sisters, Lue Spruell, Iris Wright (James), Shirley Stokes (Irby), and Edna Bates (Randolph); brother-in-law, Rufus Lemon; devoted god-daughter Gail Ashby; special friend, Gail Paige; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Mrs. Lemon may be viewed on Saturday beginning at noon in the funeral home.
