Parsley, Paul H., Sr. age 85, a lifelong resident of New Kent County, passed away on May 10, 2022. He was the son of the late John Logan Parsley and Mable Lee Parsley.
Paul attended New Kent County public schools and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. When Paul was young, he enjoyed gathering with family and playing music. He played the guitar, mandolin, and harmonica.
As an adult, Paul worked as a machinist. He married Ruby Lea Parsley (Polly), in 1957 and together they started their family of five children. Paul was an avid farmer. He enjoyed growing vegetables and fruits. This led to a career change later in life and Paul became a produce farmer. He opened a small produce stand in New Kent County. Paul’s Produce would serve the community for four years and those who stopped by will remember the good hometown feeling.
Paul fought a long battle with cancer and COPD. In Paul’s final moments at home, he was surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and many grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, John Logan Parsley and Mable Lee Parsley; brothers, Wallace Parsley and Alton Parsley; sisters, Jane Marr and Norma Moore; great-grandsons, Hawkins Bowman Jr., and Riley Crowell.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lea Parsley; sons, Paul Parsley, Jr. (Kristin) and Tim Parsley (Crystal); daughters, Vicki Bowman (Gilbert), Sandra Rice (Leo), and Tina Mason (Terry). Paul was loved by 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, three sisters, and two brothers.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held from 2 to 6 P.M. on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at his home. Paul wanted his family and friends to remember him at his field where he worked and enjoyed many hours growing tomatoes.
