SMITHFIELD — Alex Sophannarith Young, 51, of Smithfield, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Mr. Young was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He graduated from Old Dominion University in 1994 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at Northrop Grumman Shipyard in Newport News for 14 years. He transferred to the U.S. Navy Department of Defense, as an electrical engineer at the Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Newport News.
He was the son of the late Siem Young (father) and Ni Te (mother) and brother of the late Sophannak Young, Sophannun Young, and Sophannara Young. Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 plus years, Kristen Demboski of Smithfiled, VA; son, Julian Young (Emilee Young, wife) of Arlington, VA; daughter, Caitlyn Demboski of Hampton, VA; son, Noah Young of Smithfield, VA; daughter, Niya Young of Smithfield, VA and sister, Sophanna Young of Newport News, VA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 14, 2022 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
