NEWPORT NEWS — Freda Laverne Kelley, 85, of Newport News, passed over to be with her heavenly father on February 14, 2022. Freda was born to Wallace and Cleo Smith in Allen, OK. Freda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to a family that will truly miss her. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church until her physical disabilities left her homebound and unable to attend on a regular basis. As a member of the church, she made it her mission to improve the lives of the homeless and hungry through the church PORT program. When she wasn’t filling her home with Christian love and kindness, she could be found on her computer playing POGO and competing with other POGO players.
Freda was proceeded in death by her husband, Leamon Kelley; her son, Rodney Kelley and her parents, Wallace and Cleo Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Taylor; her granddaughter, Destria Taylor; grandson, Christopher Taylor; great-granddaughter, Karis Romans, and her sister, Billy Ann Smith Reed.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Masks are required. Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
