NEW KENT — James “Jim” R. Murin, Sr., 73, of New Kent, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born November 18, 1948, in Northumberland County, PA to the late Albert Murin, Sr. and Sabina (Gallagher) Murin. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Murin and Albert Murin, Jr.
After 15 years as a road surveying crew chief, Jim spent over 30 years working for construction company L.S. Lee, Inc. in Richmond, and retired as Vice President of the firm. After retiring, he joined a group of DuPont Retirees in golf several days a week. Jim moved to The Groves in New Kent a few years ago, finding another group of friends in the neighborhood where he enjoyed golf and smoking cigars in his garage where he could socialize with neighbors. This same group came to the aid of the family over the past several months including rides to doctors, and always making themselves available; for which the family is eternally grateful.
Jim is survived by his brothers, Leonard (wife Robin) of Kulpmont, PA, and Francis (wife Maryann) of Bloomsburg, PA; son James R. Murin, Jr., his wife Sonya and their daughter Julia, of Oviedo, FL; daughter Candice Belfield, her husband Alvin and son Nicholas Williams of Mattaponi, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday, February 9th at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140, followed by cremation with burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jim’s name to benefit Hospice of Virginia, checks can be written to The Hope Foundation, and mailed to 2235 Staples Mill Rd, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23230.
The family wishes to thank Hospice for their care and support through the last few weeks, which was invaluable to all.
