
VIRGINIA — Marjorie Helen Anderson Gates, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at the age of 98. She was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She was a resident of Virginia for the last 25 years.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry W. Gates after 64 wonderful years of sharing and caring; and a beloved son, Thomas Scott Gates. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Dr. Stephen C. Gates and wife, Rita, and Paul W. Gates and wife, Ester; her daughter, Merrilee A. Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Sally Gates; grandchildren, Mike Schmidt and John, Woody, Elizabeth, and Clay Gates.
Marjorie graduated from Tulsa Oklahoma Central High School and graduated at Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree. She was the Assistant to the Head of the Easter Seal Society in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In retirement, Marjorie and her husband donated over 7,000 hours in service to the National Park Service. Upon moving to Virginia, they resided in Poquoson 15 happy years together. Marjorie donated time tutoring elementary school children and assisted the local library in Poquoson.
