
CHARLES CITY COUNTY — Harold Vance Charity, Sr., 75, of Charles City County, entered eternal rest on January 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladolia and Deuteronomy Charity, Sr.
The oldest of four siblings, he grew up being a protector and big brother to Deuteronomy, Jr. (Buddy), Gloria, Duke, and Verna. He would go to any length to safeguard them. He was extremely close to his mother and took pleasure in being able to talk with her about anything. Harold attended Charles City Public Schools and graduated from Ruthville High School in 1964. He was baptized at an early age at St. John Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. Among them are Chairman of the Deacon Board, member of both the John E. Jones Memorial and Senior Choirs. He also taught Sunday school.
He married “the girl next door”, the love of his life, Beverly, on October 15, 1966. They were married for 55 years. From their union came four children, Harold, Jr., Mia, Kerry and Marichal, Sr. He loved spending time with his family and most of all, spoiling his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
His pastimes included, playing baseball, fishing, drawing, painting, hunting, singing, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play. He played baseball as a youngster and went on to manage and pitch for the Charles City Black Sox.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Charity. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Harold Jr. (Denise), Mia Greene (Clarence), Kerry Simms, and Marichal Sr. (Njeri); Sisters, Verna (Carroll), Gloria; Brothers, Deuteronomy Jr. (Eva), Duke (Rosemary), 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, 5 aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A service will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A visitation will take place from 5PM-8PM Monday, January 10, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the Saint John Baptist Church Cemetery, Charles City, VA.
