NEWPORT NEWS — Kim passed away unexpectedly on12/7/2021. Kim was born in Williamsburg, VA and grew up in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, VA and Moyock, NC, where she graduated from Currituck High School. She obtained a bachelors in business administration from Radford University, a masters in business administration from Colorado State University, and certification as a Project Management Professional.
Kim was a passionate animal lover and first brought focus to animal shelters in the New River Valley through a class project while attending RU. She designed a web page for the Radford Animal Shelter in 1997 to help bring awareness and raise adoption rates. This developed into years of local animal advocacy where Kim & her husband Jason would help develop pages and maintain them for shelters. When they moved to Blacksburg this work continued as a community driven volunteer effort known as Montgomery County Friends of Animal Care & Control. Her incredible laugh could always be heard on any given day in that old 1970’s era shelter. Her dedication helped contribute to a new Animal Care & Adoption Center that is now a destination for the community in Montgomery County Virginia. She rescued so many animals in her life and bearing witness to her patience and kindness has always been a blessing.
Kim is survived by her husband Jason Shelton, her mother Beverly Crisp, brothers Michael & wife Jennifer, Jeffrey & wife Gwen, & Brian Crisp as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews, devoted friends and a massive community of support that spans not just across Virginia, but across the country.
A celebration of life will be held for Kim on Dec. 18, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Manna Church, 326 Tabbs Ln., Newport News, Va. 23602. We will have a stream available for those who can’t attend in person.
