Michael Christopher Crovak, 62, of Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS — Michael Christopher Crovak, of Newport News, Virginia, 62 years old, died unexpectedly on December 4, 2021. His sudden passing deeply and profoundly saddens the family. He was born on November 3 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His childhood years were spent in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He attended Norwin High School class of 1978, where he was a standout defensive player on the Norwin Knights football team.

Mike graduated from Clarion University in 1982 and played defensive lineman for the Golden Eagles. He was named first team All PSAC in 1981 and was named an All American as well.

His “second” family was his team and co-workers at Lineage Logistics located in Norfolk, Virginia, where he spent 26 years. Mike also shared a special relationship with colleagues and patrons of Marker 20 where he assisted with security for many years.

He enjoyed golf and traveling with his wife Teresa. Mike loved his workout sessions, all things Pittsburgh, cigars and had a passion for experimenting with various meats in his backyard smoker. Mike fervently supported the American Legion. One of his favorite activities was playing games with his grandson.

Anyone who knew Mike was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament despite his large physique.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Teresa; mother, Catherine Crovak; his daughter, Aislinn, step-children, Steven (Melanie) and Elizabeth Blackwell; his brother, Mark (Katie), sister, Catherine Hilbush (Mark) and grandson, Stevie, as well as his extended family and an abundance of friends. His father, John Crovak preceded him in death. We will all miss him more than words can say.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in his honor at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the American Legion Post 368 by Rev. David Efimetz. Contributions in memory of Michael can be made to the American Legion Post 368 Newport News, 368 American Legion Drive, Newport News, Virginia 23608. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
