
WILLIAMSBURG — Dianne S. Mattingly, R.N.C.B., daughter of the late Edgar “June” Stone and Virginia B. Franklin, was born on October 3, 1948, in Williamsburg, VA. She ascended to her Heavenly Home on Friday, October 15, 2021.
Dianne was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where both her grandmother, Mary C. Bartlett and her mother served as the Mother of the Church respectively. She was a devoted and faithful member who once served on the 2nd Senior Choir and was an Honorary Member of the Missionaries.
Dianne was a graduate of James Weldon Johnson High School in York County where she was the Valedictorian of her Senior Class. She later studied nursing at Thomas Nelson Community College and became a Registered Nurse after graduating Cum Laude from Norfolk State University. Additionally, she was a member of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and Sigma Theta International Nursing Honor Society. She worked at Eastern State Hospital for over twenty years as a nurse, Nurse Supervisor, and finally Building Manager before retiring.
Dianne was kind, loving, and compassionate with a heart of gold. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and confidant. Dianne was an imaginative person who enjoyed using her hands to create flower arrangements, stencils, artwork, and home décor. She loved to travel and had been to many states and several countries including Panama, France, Germany, Canada, and numerous Caribbean nations.
Dianne leaves to cherish fond memories, her loving husband of 48 years, George W. Mattingly; devoted son, André L. Mattingly; her ever-present step-father, Wilson P. Franklin; her dutiful sister, Leslie K. Jackson (Fitz); a caring niece, Courtni A. Wynn (Camden); a joyful great-nephew, Josiah N. Wynn; inspirational godchild, Kamari Judge; dedicated cousins, Willanette Bartlett and Hope Bartlett; four aunts, Iris Jimmerson, Helen King, Darnella Whiting, and Louise Stone; three brothers-in-law, William I. Mattingly (Rudy), Jerome P. Mattingly (Mary), and Edward D. Mattingly (Wanda); her beloved friend, Mary-Ann Leslie (Clemie); as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 22, 2021, in Whiting’s Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Keller officiating. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Mattingly may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Facial coverings are required for all services.
