HAMPTON — Mary K. Heath was born on August 28, 1925 and passed away on October 13, 2021. She encountered life’s challenges with an open mind and a grateful heart, including the loss of her sight. Her sense of humor and quick wit were matched only by her pride, her love for family and the Lord.
She illuminated the congregation of Grace Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia with the same enthusiasm she brought to her daily routine. Friends and family always knew to give extra time when running errands with Mary, because she never failed to make a few new friends along the way.
When not fishing, traveling with her church group or chatting with friends, Mary could be found diligently working on one of her beautiful quilts or hemming a garment for someone in need.
The single mother of four, Mary is an example to her family and all who knew her of independence, perseverance and grit. She is preceded by her son’s Donnie and Jimmy and survived by her daughters Ruth and Donna. Mary’s legacy includes eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and countless friends.
Mary’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the neurology department at Riverside Medical Center, where even in her final days, Mary left a lasting impression.
A graveside service at Peninsula Memorial will be held in Mary’s honor on Oct. 23 at 1:00. Arrangements are in the care of Altmeyer Funeral Home – Riverside Chapel.
