NEWPORT NEWS — Michael H. Lynch, 79, passed easily from this life to eternal life on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 after a short illness. He was born in Illinois in 1942 and lived there until he joined the Navy in 1959. He met his wife, Mary, through a mutual friend and married in 1963. In July, they celebrated 58 years of marriage. He joined the Newport News Police Department in 1963 and served in many capacities until his retirement as a Lieutenant in 2001. Michael was proud to be a Policeman protecting the citizens of Newport News, and he served with integrity and honor. He was also proud to be a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Newport News. Michael loved riding motorcycles and even road-raced at Daytona once. He also enjoyed attending NASCAR races with his buddies and once got to ride with one of the NASCAR drivers. He and Mary enjoyed traveling in their RV. He was a man who was always there for his family. He was a good friend and neighbor. He became a Christian at age 22 and was affiliated with Temple Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and Menchville Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie Hardy Lynch and Calvin Lynch; his brothers, Andrew, Frank, and Roger Lynch. Michael and Mary were blessed with two fine sons, Gregory and Craig Lynch and a beloved daughter-in-law, Karen Lynch and they in turn, blessed their parents with seven amazing grandchildren: Frank Scheib, Jesse Scheib, Hannah Lynch, Ryan Lynch, Julia Lynch, Courtney Lynch, and Sarah Lynch; brother, Mark Lynch of Illinois; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Walker, Iva Ottofaro, Cass Lynch, and Ann Lynch and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life with Police Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home by Pastor Jim Weston, Menchville Baptist Church and Pastor Randy Shepley, First Baptist Church. A Visitation will follow after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peninsula Rescue Mission, Newport News, Va. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
