NEWPORT NEWS — Kenneth “Kenny” Davis Sr., 61, was born July 17, 1959, in Baltimore, Md. He transitioned Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

Kenny enlisted into the U.S. Army at an early age and left Baltimore for basic training at 17 years old in 1977. From there, he was able to travel the world and build a foundation for his and his family’s life. He fulfilled many roles while in the U.S. Army, but he found his niche as an attack helicopter technician, specializing on the aircraft powerplant for the Apache airframe. He directly contributed to U.S. support during the Nicaraguan conflict, served in the Gulf War, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

After a proud 20 years of service, Kenny retired from the U.S. Army as a highly-decorated veteran, earning distinctions such as the NATO, Kuwait Liberation, Southwest Asia Service with three bronze service stars, numerous Army Commendation, Army Achievement and the National Defense Service medals as well as his Parachute Badge.

After retiring from the military, Kenny wasn’t done serving for his country and family. He proceeded to work as a contractor in the Middle East, providing support to Joint Forces for an additional 7 years. He returned home and continued traveling the world with Muhlbauer, having the opportunity to travel to Ghana, Uganda, Mexico, Canada, and Germany.

Kenny’s favorite and cherished things amongst many were watching his Baltimore Ravens, his friends, cars, and throwing down a good BBQ! He was thrilled by playing the boogey man with his children when they were little and then with his grandchildren. He loved his wife’s fried chicken and was passionate about his parents’ well-being. Mostly, and above all, he loved to provide for his family.

He is survived by his parents, James Sr. and Iris; wife, Heike; three daughters, Kim, Kisha and Jamila (Ebony); two sons, Kenneth Jr. and Duane; and five grandchildren, Tony, Kamden, Tyanna, Ty’Jade and Karsten; siblings, Carolyn, Robert (Sandra), Clifford (Yong Yon), Kevin, Denise (Herman), Kurt, Janice and James Jr.; aunts, Sarah and Christine Barney; in-laws and family in Germany; and nephews, nieces, cousins, and other family and friends. Kenny was loved by all who were blessed to know him.

A wake will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 10, followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m., at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave., Newport News.
