WILLIAMSBURG — William C. Bauknight Jr., 99, of Williamsburg Landing, died Monday, June 21, 2021, in Williamsburg.
He was born July 29, 1921, in Jacksonville, Fla., the son of William C. and Nellie Martin Bauknight. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, the University of Virginia and George Washington University.
Mr. Bauknight engaged in the private practice of law, principally in Northern Virginia and Maryland for 43 years, being a member of the Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia bars. He was a Life Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation. He maintained offices in Fairfax County and Easton, Md.
He was commissioned in the Naval Reserve in 1942 and served on active duty during World War II and the Korean War. During the former war, his sea duty included participation in the Marianas Islands, the Philippines, and Okinawa campaigns.
He was a past member of the Metropolitan Club of Washington, Downtown Club of Richmond, Farmington Country Club of Charlottesville, Blowing Rock Country Club, Tred Avon Yacht Club, and past commodore of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club.
He was a communicant and former vestryman of St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock, N.C. He was a communicant of Bruton Parish in Williamsburg.
Mr. Bauknight was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Watts Bauknight; daughter, Lynn Ann Bartholomew of Allen, Texas; and great-grandson, Parker Shane Isbell of Fort Worth, Texas.
Mr. Bauknight is survived by two daughters, Linda Leigh Franklin, and her husband, Fred, of Venice, Fla., and Rebecca Sue Bauknight of San Francisco; three grandchildren, Whitney Weber Isbell, Julia Margaret Tait, and Christopher William Franklin; and four great-grandchildren, Delaney Leigh Davis, Cooper William Davis, Brooke Hope Isbell, and Hailey Tait.
Funeral services and a virtual celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 31, at Bruton Parish, Williamsburg.
