George Marion Talley Sr., 85, took up golf as his new career in retirement

WILLIAMSBURG — George Marion Talley Sr., 85, passed away Monday, May 10, 2021. He was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Huntsville, Alabama.

He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1957 with a degree in civil engineering, married his beloved wife Jane, and spent his entire career of 39-plus years working for Westvaco in Covington.

George was a longtime member of Walnut Hills Baptist Church. He took up golf as his new career in retirement and enjoyed playing with family and friends. George enjoyed woodworking, bike riding, walking, working the daily jumble, and spending time with family, especially seeing his great-grandchildren grow.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, better known as “Lady Jane” to her family and friends; father, Marion Talley; and mother, Evelyn Talley.

He leaves cherished memories to his two sons and their families, George M. Talley Jr., and his wife, Sharon, their daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Mitchell Beasley, and their son, Oliver with another on the way; and Thomas C. Talley, and his wife, Kathy, his son, Dylan, his daughter and her partner, Madison Talley and Alexander Little, who are the parents of twin boys, Chase and Chance Little; as well as Kathy’s children, son, Ray Johnson Jr., and his wife, Stacy, and their children, Kaelyn, Kirsten and Colton, and son, Robert Johnson, and his wife, Leanne, and daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Richard Himelright, and their son, Ritchie. He also leaves one sister, Nancy Nesterowich, and her husband, Don, of Niceville, Florida.

A private service will be held for the family at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 22.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lottie Moon and/or Annie Armstrong Missionary programs at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
