NEWPORT NEWS — Avery Jenkins, 56, born to Alton and Girlie Jenkins Aug. 14, 1964, fell asleep in death Sunday, March 28, 2021.
Avery was preceded in death by his father.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Emerald; daughter, Brionna (Justin) Little; son, Derick Lassiter; mother, Girlie P. Jenkins; four sisters, Pamela Vaughn, Sharon Baker, Bernadette Jenkins and Amanda Carmichael; six brothers, Gerl Jenkins, Dennis (Anita “Jewel”) Jenkins, Joe Jenkins, Gregory (Rondalyn) Jenkins, Alton Jerome Jenkins and Porter (Ester) Jenkins; nephew, Dana R. Jenkins, who was raised with him like a sibling; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and spiritual brothers and sisters.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Dec. 29, 1984, and remained faithful until his death. Avery enjoyed family vacations, gatherings, also spending time with friends in various congregations. We will miss his contagious smile.
A public viewing will be held from 4 to 5 p.m., Friday, April 2, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 12893 Jefferson Ave., Newport News. Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, April 4, online via Zoom.
