WILLIAMSBURG — Nathan Hyatt Walker II, 81, peacefully passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Nate was born May 14, 1939, to Nathan Hyatt Walker Sr. and Dorothy Sheets Walker in Waynesville, North Carolina. He grew up in Newport News and graduated from Warwick High School as a “Fighting Farmer” and became a proud U.S. Marine.

After returning to the Peninsula, he worked for several different companies operating heavy equipment. It was during this time that he became injured on the job. His nurse was a lovely young woman, Betty Pierce. They were married within a year.

Nate began working for Lockwood Brothers Inc. in Hampton in 1974, where he continued in various positions right up until the time of his illness. His love for his work family was only rivaled by his fierce love and devotion for his wife, children, and especially his grandsons.

Nate was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Pierce Walker; son, Nathan Pierce Walker; and parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan W. Blanchard (Les Strubel); grandsons, Quinton W. Blanchard and Marshall H. Blanchard; sister, Martha W. Blanks (Edward); sisters-in-law, Carol A. Chestnutt and Phyllis Rudd; nieces and nephews, Cheryl, Chris, Viki, Jenny, Andy and Brittaney; and very special friend, Karol MacLoughlin.

The family would like to thank Dr. Parikh, Nurse Hazel and the Kindred Hospice team for the devoted care and compassion shown to their father and grandfather.

A memorial service will be held in the future. Please check back for arrangements to be posted when available.

Share online condolences with the family at Vincent Funeral Home.
