
LANEXA — Ned N. Cary IV, 51, suddenly departed this life Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg, surrounded by his family. Known as “Roonie” by loved ones, he was born April 13, 1969, to the late Shirley and Ned Cary Jr.
Ned graduated with the Class of 1987 from Lafayette High School. He was united in holy matrimony to Kimberly Rodgers in June 1990. Unto this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Ashley, in August 1991.
Ned proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, as a culinary specialist. He deployed to Afghanistan twice and once to Liberia. In addition to his United States assignment, he was also stationed in Wurzburg and Hamberg, Germany. He retired with the rank of sergeant first class after 20 years of service.
Ned was a dedicated and caring husband and father. He was a very private man with an unwavering concern regarding the welfare of his family and friends. He had a passion for golfing, learning the game from his father, and he eventually taught his daughter the game and enjoyed watching her play in Europe.
Ned was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dora and Ned Cary.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years, Kimberly; daughter, Ashley Cary of Richmond; stepmother, Juanita Hickmann of Newport News; two sisters, Tarita Carr of Wichita, Kansas, and Tomiko Cary of Roanoke; brother, Gregory Cary (Melinda) of Urbanna; uncles, Levi Cary (Rebecca), Howard Cary (Essie), Jerry Cary (Sharon) and James Cary; mother and father-in-law, Arlean and Paul Rodgers; three sisters-in-law, Talisha and Paula Rodgers and Latasha Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving friends.
Services for Mr. Cary will be private; however, they will be livestreamed at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, via whitingsfuneralhome.com.
