VIRGINIA BEACH — Our beloved dad and grandad, self-made success, problem-solver, proud West Virginian and avowed realist, Jerry Allen Hartley, 83, peacefully joined his brother, sisters and parents in heaven Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020.
We will miss his great joy at family gatherings, vast collection of plaid shirts, love of bluegrass music and limitless advice. We sure wish we had the chance to roll our eyes just one more time. We will always remember him (with tissue in hand) tending his lawn and flowers with such care, fretting over his daily routines, laughingly entertaining us with stories of his youth in West Virginia, fussing about the jet noise, and, most of all, loving each of us in his own special way. But we are content to know he is with his Lord Jesus watching over the family he loved so much.
He is survived by his brokenhearted children, Mark, Troy, Joni, Leesa (and Echard); grands, Justin, Amber, Brad, Casey, Gage and Sophie; and 10 great-grand blessings. He also leaves behind his sister, Helen, and a host of nieces and nephews in West Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, with a brief gathering at the facility immediately following. There will also be an opportunity for anyone who would like to stand (or sit) and share a memory, tribute or happy anecdote about our dad. He would have loved that.
Share online condolences with the family at Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory.
