NEWPORT NEWS — Jeffrey Leston “Jeff” Hall, 68, a native of New Jersey and a 24-year resident of Newport News, unexpectedly passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2020. Jeff, as he was fondly known, was born Dec. 19, 1951, to the late Leston and Salena Hall. He was educated in the New Jersey public school system.
As a youth, he enjoyed singing and was a member of the Mount Zion AME Church Youth Choir. Jeff could hardly wait for Mrs. Ella Rogers, the youth director, to select him to lead a song. One of his favorite songs he lead was, “Jesus Loves Me.” He was always quite the showman, milking his songs for all they were worth on the fourth Sunday of every month.
Jeffrey was an avid sportsman and played a variety of sports throughout his youth. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He loved going on camping trips so he could come home and share his camping experiences with the family. Of course, we all knew the bear stories were slightly exaggerated, but we listened intently as he told of his camping experiences, with such great humor.
Jeff, was also a member of the New Jersey painters union. He worked in commercial and residential painting for many years, including many jobs at the Atlantic City casino. He often donated his time to friends when they were in need of a professional painter. He gave up his craft in 2015, but still enjoyed helping his friends in Hilton Village and the surrounding areas near Newport News.
Jeff’s jovial personality was infectious. If you ever wanted some good laughs or an enjoyable dance, Jeff was “that guy.” He was always the life of any party or social event.
Jeffrey leaves to cherish his memories, his beautiful daughters, Dr. Jo Hall (Alex) and Tina Lin Wall (Edward); seven awesome grandchildren, Alexis, Elayzha, Elijah (E.J.), Cameron, Adin, Jaylen and Keimora; beloved sister, Arlene Blount (Richard); nephew, Siyani Blount (Brandy); great-nephew, Zimri; the newest member of his family, his great-niece, Symphony Love; a number of wonderful cousins, adopted nephews and nieces; best friend from childhood, Gabriel Robinson; and many wonderful, lifelong friends.
Jeffrey Hall, rest in peace. Your earthly presence will be missed.
