Joseph Alfred Washington, 96, retired from Naval Weapons Station Yorktown

WILLIAMSBURG — Joseph Alfred Washington, 96, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020. He was born Jan. 16, 1924, to the late Clarence and Ezella Williams Washington.

In 1957, Mr. Washington was united in holy matrimony to the late Theresa Walker. He was a member of Chickahominy Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and worked for Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Regina V. Washington-Moore; and stepmother, Viola Washington.

He leaves to cherish precious memories three grandchildren, Richard Moore (Frank), Tomika Moore and Russell Moore Sr. (Shannon); three great-grandchildren, Kammi Jackson, Kai-ya Moore and Russell Moore Jr.; three great-great-grandchildren, Zamerria Jackson, Devin Jackson and Zoe Jackson; devoted cousins and friends, George and Fain Washington; devoted niece and nephew, Mable and Warren Wynne; devoted caregivers, Lori Walker and Russell Adkins; and a host of other family members and dear friends.

Mr. Washington may be viewed from 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Face coverings and social distancing are required. A livestreamed service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18.
