NEWPORT NEWS — LaShay Fanchon “Shay” Jamison, 30, was born in McKenzie, Tennessee, Oct. 16, 1989, to Jerry and Corrine Jamison. On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, surrounded by family and friends at her home, LaShay went peacefully into the arms of Jesus.

Shay was a member of Ivy Baptist Church, Newport News. She graduated from Woodside High School in 2008 and attended Hampton University, Hampton. LaShay was a talented makeup artist for 10 years at MAC Cosmetics. She loved interacting with people and enjoyed the camaraderie she had with her coworkers. Being able to enhance women’s beauty using her artistry in makeup was something Shay truly enjoyed. Her customer service skills also extended her to employment with Walmart Pharmacy and COACH.

“Shazy,” affectionately called by her mom and often with a little song, “Shazy don’t be so lazy,” cherished family time and hanging out with friends. She loved traveling, going to the beach and dancing, even though she couldn’t hold a beat; but that didn’t stop her from moving when she heard a good song she liked — like, Return of the Mack, her favorite song. Shay could be heard calling her mom, affectionately, “Old Lady.” We will always remember Shay “speeding” around in “Big Brenda” and hearing her greet friends with a “Hey Ma’am!” Her beautiful smile was a warm comfort, and her laugh contagious. Those who had the opportunity to meet her, loved her.

LaShay was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Left to cherish her beautiful memory are her parents, Jerry and Corrine Jamison; brother, Aaron Williams Jr.(Sherima); sister, Shawnay Jamison; twin nieces, Zoé and Zhané; nephews, Aaron Williams III, Breon Barrett and Marlon BaCote; best friends, Tyvonna Sears, Leeanna Winston and Jessica Kate; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and friends.

LaShay will be truly missed by all who knew her and were touched by her presence in their lives.

Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 16, at the funeral home. Entombment will be held in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Immediately following the entombment, a repast will be held at J.R. Crickets, 14501 Warwick Blvd., Ste. A, Newport News.
