Fleming Emmanuel “F.E.” Pierce Jr., 82, was born June 20, 1937, in Magruder, now known as Camp Peary, to the late Christine Wallace and Emanuel Pierce, and departed this earthly life Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019.
F.E., as he was affectionately called, was raised in Mount Gilead Baptist Church and was active in Sunday school, vacation Bible school, the senior choir, and as a trustee for a number of years. Whenever there was a beautification project at the church, F.E. was always there.
Fleming attended the Williamsburg-James City County Schools, graduating from the Bruton Heights school. He earned a degree in Instrumental Music at Fayetteville State University. After graduation, he taught in the Culpepper Public Schools, where he met his first wife. From that marriage, two sons were born. After two years, F.E. returned to Williamsburg. There, he completed 21 years working as a teacher, coach and mentor. He was known to be strict, but always fair.
It was when he returned to Williamsburg that he met and married his wife of 52 years, and from that marriage, a son and daughter were born. After retiring from teaching, F.E. started a new career at Anheuser-Busch, where he worked for another 21 years.
He loved his family, church, music, horses and bowling. He could be seen for many years riding in the annual Christmas parade in Williamsburg. He also bowled with a local bowling league for many years. Our faith and hope in God leads us to take comfort in his many kind acts and deeds done for others.
Fleming leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Jeffrey (Sue), Gregory and Anthony; daughter, Angela; two grandchildren, Danielle and Anthony Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Noah; brother, Bernard Bowman (Rosetta Lee); sister, Kaye Molley; two devoted caregivers, Hattie Baubore and Beatrice Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at Mount Gilead Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are to assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. Mr. Pierce may be viewed beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of his service.
