On October 13, 1945, in Williamsburg, the late Ernest Hawkins and Nancy Johnson were blessed by God with a loving son, James Jermaine Hawkins, 74, and on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at 3:55 a.m., God called his angel to be with Him for all eternity.
At an early age, James accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Morning Star Baptist Church. He loved his church, where he played the guitar and drums. He was a faithful member until his health prevented him from being so.
James attended Bruton Heights School. During his work career, he was employed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Eastern State Hospital.
James loved music and entertaining his family and friends. Although we will miss our beloved James, we find peace in knowing that he is now resting in Jesus’ arms.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon Hawkins, David Hawkins, Ernest Hawkins and Cheynne Hawkins. He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Raven-Simone Gettings; son, David Doughty; three grandchildren, Maleah, Zariah and Nehemiah; sisters, Audrey Hawkins, Vinetta Hamilton, Ernestine Mangrum, Jaunita Bausley and Maxine Hawkins; brother, Robert Hawkins; nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at Whiting’s Chapel. Interment will follow in Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Mr. Hawkins may be viewed beginning at 1 p.m. until the hour of his service.
Share online condolences with the family at Whiting’s Funeral Home.
