Dominick Anthony ‘Dom’ Orband, 91, of Yorktown, died Saturday, March 23, 2019, after a five year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Dom was born in Binghamton, New York, to Italian immigrants, Bartholomew and Antoinette Orband. He was the eighth of 10 children. Dom joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served on various Naval vessels that had wartime engagements during World War II, and Korea and Vietnam wars. He proudly served until he retired in 1966 as a chief petty officer, commissary steward.

After retirement from the U.S. Navy, Dom had a very successful career as a life insurance agent with Shenandoah Life Insurance Company. Dom achieved the honor of being part of the Million Dollar Round Table.

Dom was a very active parishioner of St. Pius X Church, Norfolk, where he coordinated many Navy breakfasts, spaghetti dinners and the kitchen duties for the May festivals. He was a member of both the Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus.

Dom is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Orband; son, Jim (Debbie); daughter, Lisa (Aaron); and four grandchildren; and sister, Rachael. Dom was preceded in death by his eldest son, Henry.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 315 Harris Grove Lane, Yorktown. Burial will be held following Mass at approximately 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 East Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.

Nothing was more important to Dom than family. He was the best father, a true friend and loving husband. May he rest in peace.
