Vincenza “Enza” Shirley, 63, of Yorktown, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Born Jan. 19, 1955, in Sicily, she graduated from Saint Anthony High School, Sicily, in 1969 and earned her teaching degree in 1972.

Enza was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, working in her garden and completing home-improvement projects. She had a deep love for children and animals, and her generous and compassionate personality touched the lives of all of those around her. Enza worked at Newport News Inc. as a customer service representative for 15 years.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband of 45 years, retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Charles E. Shirley; children, Chuck, and his wife, Erica, Christina and Eric, and his wife, Kim; grandchildren, Madison, Aiden and Nico; and her loyal American bulldog, Jasmine. Survivors also include her sister and lifelong best friend, Giuseppa “Giosie” Romito; nephew, Bobby Romito, and his wife, Meri, and their children, R.J. and Ryan; brothers-in-law, Phillip Shirley and Robert Shirley; sisters-in-law Patricia Lelli, Cathy Shirley, Helen Nocera, and their extended families.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Yorktown. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
