Richard Norman Wood, 79, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2018. Richard was a native of Seaford and a lifelong resident of the Peninsula.
He graduated from York High School in 1957. Richard was a former employee of Newport News Shipbuilding and owner of R.N. Wood Contracting Company from 1969 to the present. He was an avid bowler and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Wood; mother, Mildred; stepfather, Kelly Corder; and brothers, Billy, Bob and Thomas Wood.
He is survived by his companion, Joanne Murphy; son, Harold Wood; daughters, Tracy Fletcher, and her husband, Dana, and Melissa Sawyer; stepson, John Gilley, and his wife, Angie; stepdaughter, Cathy Higgins, and her husband, Ricky; sister, Priscilla MacAurther; nine grandchildren, Garett, Joshua, Zachary, Amanda, Jensen, Katie S., Katie G., Ryan and Tyler; six great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at Zion United Methodist Church, Seaford. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
