Frank Lopez Huerta, 91, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. He was born in Feb. 28, 1927, in Globe, Arizona, and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy for 27 years. He always said that joining the Navy was the best decision he ever made and was very proud to be a veteran.

After retiring from the Navy, he had a tree service for many years, and then established Frank’s Lawn Service when it was no longer safe for him to climb trees. For many years, he maintained many plush yards in the Tidewater area making many lifelong friends along the way. Frank was not happy when he gave up his job at the age of 88, even though he still had projects he would have liked to have finished. He had an unbelievable work ethic.

Frank is survived by his wife, Mary Fisher Huerta, who he celebrated 70 years of marriage with in March; brother-in-law, Harry R. Fisher; three daughters, Patsy H. Nichols of Churchville, Lisa S. Bradshaw, and her husband, Denis, of Virginia Beach and Mary H. Paasch of Virginia Beach. He loved all his children and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was always interested in visiting, and he would be known to say “come early and stay late.”

His grandchildren are Matthew S. Remy, and his wife, Anna, of Greenwood, Kenneth J. Kostrzewa, and his wife, Melanie, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Julie E. Kostrzewa of Virginia Beach, Laura M. McMillan, and her husband, Howie, of Palmyra, Malia D. Paasch of Norfolk, Holly P. Miller, and her husband, Dave, of Gainesville, Florida, Tyler D. Paasch of Virginia Beach and Jenna E. Paasch of Virginia Beach. He is also blessed with six great-granddaughters, Avery, Eliza, and Ivy Kostrzewa, and Megan, Caitlin and Haley Remy. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael S. Remy.

A graveside service to celebrate Frank’s life will be held at 10 a.m.,  Saturday, Sept. 8, at Nimmo United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2220 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, with Dr. J. Scottie Griffin officiating. A reception at the church will follow the graveside service.
