Richard Lawrence “Rick” Bennett, 74, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at his home in Williamsburg, Va. Marian, his wife of 49 years, was at his side. He is also survived by his children, Amy Dragstra (Wiebe), Will Bennett (Christy) and John Paul Bennett (Nora); and six grandchildren.
Rick taught as a special education teacher in York County for 28 years and served in the U.S. Marines and the Marine Corps Reserve from 1965 to 1971.
He was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church and an active participant in many public service groups such as PORT, alltogetherwilliamsburg.org, williamsburgbirdclub.org, the Poetry Club at the JCC library, Ferguson Center for the Arts, Williamsburg Players, as well as williamsburghouseofmercy.org.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 12, at the church. All are welcome.
