Franklin Delanor Smith, 85, kept busy during retirement with his well-drilling business

Franklin Delanor Smith, 85, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017.

Franklin worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years and had a well-drilling business that kept him busy after retirement. He was a hunter, fisherman, gardener and nature lover. He will be most remembered as a man devoted to his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 59 years, Dorothy Smith; children, Debra Atwood, and her husband, Larry, and Victoria Leigh, and her husband, Michael; the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Olivia Michelle Atwood, Hayley Nicole Atwood, Elizabeth Ashley Atwood and Cortney Alison Leigh; great-grandson, Mason Tucker Brannock; and siblings, Alvin Smith, Linda Kay Smith, and Connie Matthews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.
