Mary L. ‘Lorene’ New, 82, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017. Born Mary Lorene Hicks Sept. 23, 1934, in Lanexa, she would go on to marry the love of her life, John Alexander New, Sept. 28, 1957.
Lorene was a beautiful woman whose outer beauty was only matched by her inner beauty and her ability to give unconditional love and support to everyone around her with no thought to herself. Whether you were a family member, a friend or even a pet, she was never short of love to give.
She was an incredible cook whose food filled you with warmth, and if you didn’t know the meaning of comfort food, a single meal would teach you. She loved gardening and watching plants come alive with beautiful colors and scents. Lorene was quite simply a wonderful woman who brought joy to everyone she knew. There are no words to express how deeply she will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Susie Burcham; and brother, John Hicks.
Lorene is survived by her husband of 59 years, John; their eight children, Patricia, Jennifer, Emma, Connie, Sarah, Christine, April and John Jr.; and 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
