William ‘Kenny’ Braxton, 77, first African-American to graduate from Apprentice School of Colonial Williamsburg

William ‘Kenny’ Braxton, 77, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, April 18, 2017. His life began Sept. 15, 1939, the son of the late Ethel L. and William A. Braxton.

He was the first African-American to graduate from the Apprentice School of Colonial Williamsburg and the first African-American to be employed by the foundation as a blacksmith.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Larry, William Jr. (Sherry), Ethel, Gwendolen (Randy), Frances (Michael), La-Tonia (Charles), Frankie (Yasmin), Calvin, Calvernette (Gabriel) and Christopher; sisters and brothers; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special aunt, Irene Hadley; and many other loving relatives and caring friends.

Mr. Braxton may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service, celebrating the life he lived, will be held at noon Tuesday, April 25, at Bethel Restoration Center. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at 222 Bush Springs Road by 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
